I vote for Barry Lane for Secretary of Education! Wacky We-Search Reports would serve well as the DOE policy manual.
:-) Love all his books.
Thanks Stephen. Stay Wacky.
Don't ever change.
Wait a minute.... change is good !

Dear s.

My first decision as New Secretary will be to make you my Deputy. Second move would be for all to where undergarments on the outside. Victoria will have no secrets in my realm!

Candor is King!

Barry Lane is a blessing to my writing classroom, I love using his You Tube posts to make lessons come alive.
Barry Lane's books & videos inspire me, which leads me to inspire my students. My students finally love to write!
Reviser's Toolbox is my favorite Barry Lane resource. I've been using it for
a long time and every time I use it with a new group of children, I get excited and energized about the possibilities from my writers. Your writings, advice, and resource have helped to shape my classroom. I'm thrilled to have another way to access your amazing repertoire of knowledge.
I finally took the Barry Lane leap and taught the explode the moment strategy from Hooked on Meaning. I focused on thoughtshot during this minilesson and used the example from the same book about walking up to the attic to look inside the mysterious box. I am really smitten with the explode the moment thing now, but more than anything, my kids were utterly inspired by that sample of writing.
Can we get more?? Can we? Please?????
Keep it wacky and we will all be happy!

I will be collecting many more, Maybe your students would like to submit their work. I also suggest the book Sparklers by Gretchen Bernabei and Judy Reimer for great examples of student test writing. See it at www.discoverwriting.com. Students can submit work there too.

thanks

I second your testimonial. Not only do his books provide stimulating reading, they are useful classroom resources.

Barry's stuff is great! So simple to use in the classroom, yet not dumbed down. What's also great is that whether you're a novice or an old timer (like me), you'll still take something away with you each time.
I took your "Hooked on Meaning" seminar here in Reno and walked away with a ton of great ideas. My class did the "Come with Me" poems, "What's at the End of the Rainbow" stories and are currently doing "Goofy Graphs and Mad Maps" from your Wacky We'Search Reports. Love all your great ideas!!!
Thanks!
