I vote for Barry Lane for Secretary of Education! Wacky We-Search Reports would serve well as the DOE policy manual.
:-) Love all his books.

I finally took the Barry Lane leap and taught the explode the moment strategy from Hooked on Meaning. I focused on thoughtshot during this minilesson and used the example from the same book about walking up to the attic to look inside the mysterious box. I am really smitten with the explode the moment thing now, but more than anything, my kids were utterly inspired by that sample of writing.
Can we get more?? Can we? Please?????
Barry's stuff is great! So simple to use in the classroom, yet not dumbed down. What's also great is that whether you're a novice or an old timer (like me), you'll still take something away with you each time.
Permalink Reply by Kris Haygood on May 19, 2009 at 11:16am I took your "Hooked on Meaning" seminar here in Reno and walked away with a ton of great ideas. My class did the "Come with Me" poems, "What's at the End of the Rainbow" stories and are currently doing "Goofy Graphs and Mad Maps" from your Wacky We'Search Reports. Love all your great ideas!!!
Thanks!
