Writing Lesson of the Month Network

...sharing thoughtful, mentor text-inspired lessons your students will love!

Hi there,
Looking for some feedback on the Step Up to Writing program.....I am definitely a Writer's Workshop/Six Trait Model type of writing teacher however, in my district, there is an ongoing discussion/debate taking place over whether the Step Up to Writing program should be used in all the classrooms as the main writing program.  I find it a very structured program which covers the skills of writing but doesn't seem to approach writing in a way which will ignite writing passion in my students!  I can see using it periodically as a teaching tool particularly to do mini-lessons with but not as a work your way through resource while boring your students!

I'd appreciate any thoughts/feedback you could offer on this topic, thanks,

Elisa :)

The Step up to Writng is not meant to ignite their passion for writing. It is a tool to assist with organization. There is also Step up with the Six Traits which is the part that improves the wrting from a 6 traits point of view.
