Writing Lesson of the Month Network

...sharing thoughtful, mentor text-inspired lessons your students will love!

A quiet weekend...Finished creating our Sacred Writing Time slides through June 15.  Just need to edit them, and the project is finished.  Always nice when a writing process comes to an end.

Here come this week's prompts.

Monday: ""What does a blank mind do?  Find the blankest wall where you are (in can be just part of a wall, if need be) and stare at it for 5 to 10 uninterrupted minutes.  Write about the thoughts that went through your head while you stared."

Tuesday: "What did he/she teach you?  Write about a time you learned something from a best friend."

Wednesday: "Who (or what) touched you without making physical contact?  Write about it."

Thursday: "Where's your telephoto lens?  Write a piece that starts with a zoomed-in close-up on something, then slowly pulls back so the reader sees something different or unexpected."

Friday: "What did you want to hear?  Imagine that many years ago you visited a fortune-teller, one who actually had some skill.  Write what the fortune-teller said to you as he/she flipped the cards, glanced at your palm, studied your tea leaves, or whatever.  Apply your writing to your present or future: your choice."

Saturday: "Why should they meet?  Think of two relatives or two friends.  Write about how they alike and how they are different in a poem or story (or whatever)."

Have a great week, writing/teaching friends.
