Writing Lesson of the Month Network
...sharing thoughtful, mentor text-inspired lessons your students will love!
Lots of student papers to grade today, so I am posting these quickly this week!
A quick recommendation for another Irish-themed book in honor of our March theme: St. Patrick's Day and the Irish. St. Patrick's Day in the Morning by Eve Bunting (and illustrated by Jan Brett) is a great story to read aloud to set the mood for all those shamrocks and green cut-outs many teachers will be doing this week. Here come this week's prompts. If any don't appeal to you right now, remember, you can access hundreds of prompts online at: http://writingfix.com/classroom_tools/dailypromptgenerator.htm
Monday: "What's your 'one hit wonder'? Write about one time you did something so well that you doubt you'll ever be able to repeat the feat."
Tuesday: "How could you even say that? Write about one of the times you said a bad word in your childhood, and do it without actually writing the bad word. What happened?"
Wednesday: St. Patrick's Day Brainstorm! Create a piece of writing involving a memory of something associated with the upcoming holiday: leprechauns, corned beef, four-leaf clovers, etc.
Thursday: "Why do kids do that? Write a poem or story (truth or fiction) about a child stealing something."
Friday: "Why does it recur? Describe a dream you've had more than once. Embellish on details, if you can."
Saturday: "What could 'loyalty' mean to a creative person? Write about what you are most loyal to."
Have a great week.
