Writing Lesson of the Month Network
...sharing thoughtful, mentor text-inspired lessons your students will love!
Posting this super fast! The Walking Dead season finale starts in just moments on AMC, and I'm not missing it!
A quick recommendation for another Irish-themed book in honor of our March theme: S is for Shamrock by Eve Bunting is yet-another of my favorite alphabet-inspired picture books that leads to great thinking assignments for my students. See Wednesday's prompt below!.Here come this week's prompts. If any don't appeal to you right now, remember, you can access hundreds of prompts online at: http://writingfix.com/classroom_tools/dailypromptgenerator.htm
Monday: "What was the last thing that really made you mad? Challenge yourself to write a poem (any form of poem) about it."
Tuesday: "Who decides what you should wear? Write about an experience with a 'dress code.' Even if you didn't go to a school that had such a code, there have been plenty of times in everyone's life where 'dress codes' got imposed."
Wednesday: ABC Brainstorm! Inspired by the mentor text cited above, create an ABC list based on a nationality/culture you have a connection to. Let the items that make your list inspire you to write something about one or more of your ideas.
Thursday: "Who blind-sided you? Write about a time someone caught you totally off guard."
Friday: "What did he/she teach you? Write about a time you learned something from a best friend."
Saturday: "Why are you such a moth? Compare one or more people you know to sources of light in a piece of writing. Who is a 20-watt bulb? 100-watts? Who is a spotlight? A strobe light? A nightlight? A Christmas light? Be illuminating a you write."
Have a great week.
