Writing Lesson of the Month Network

...sharing thoughtful, mentor text-inspired lessons your students will love!

Posting this super fast!  The Walking Dead season finale starts in just moments on AMC, and I'm not missing it!

I'm preparing to do some revisions to my voice (6 trait)-inspired lesson where my kids imitate the narration found in a typical legend or tall tale, and I stumbled across this book on my bookshelf.  I haven't used this mentor text in a few years, and here I was needing one more book to recommend this March based on our "Irish stories" theme here at the Daily Writing Prompts Group: Irish Legends for Children, adapted by Yvonne Carol, will be explored by students in early April thanks to my serendipitous discovery this last week.

Here come this week's prompts.  If any don't appeal to you right now, remember, you can access hundreds of prompts online at:  http://writingfix.com/classroom_tools/dailypromptgenerator.htm

Monday: "What was your medicine?  Write about the first time you remember being ill."

Tuesday: "What is an unpleasant experience you had eating?  Write a poem, paragraph, or something else about the experience."

Wednesday: Legend Brainstorm Day!  Who's an ordinary person you know (or heard about) who did something "legendary"--as though, years from now, they'll still be telling (and exaggerating) the story of what they did?  Write about that person, using a legend story-telling style.

Thursday:  "Who writes or wrote the BEST letters or e-mails?  Write a letter or e-mail to that person.  You don't have to send it, but you can...if you can."

Friday: "What did you wish for most?  Write about a time when it was just too cold."

Saturday: "Who would attend the funeral? Imagine you've been asked to write a eulogy or an obituary for a favorite character from literature. Write it."

Have a great week.
