Under the Moon and the Stars by Ari Grade 7

A quiet place.
Lying under the stars and the moon
on my blanket of grass,
I watch as the stars dance
together
on a stage of black.

The cool dirt presses against my skin,
calming my heart,
and sending tickles of grass
sliding down my spine.

The flowers around me whisper,
voices sweet as honey,
spreading secrets to the world.

The gentle summer breeze
brings on the night activities
and encourages
silver starlight to rain down
across the land.

I watch the world
through the windows
I call stars.
And I lie in my quiet place
sinking into a softer world.

My quiet place

"My Quiet Place" by Abigail, Grade 6

You could lounge at the top of a valley

Where the river is like a needle with thread,

stitching its way through the greenery that grows uncontrollably.

And the sky is always a sunsest salmon color,

Where the sun seems to never want to come out of its hiding place.

And the smell of honeysuckle . . .

the sweetness consuming your scent.

The sound of the trees whispering to each other,

as if the wind is forcing them to communicate.

Where you can look out into a field of flowers

that look like millions of dull fireworks,

exploding in slow motion.

And you can be feeling the blades of grass between your toes,

That feel as if they are scrambling hard to get out from beneath them.

A ravishing valley could be your special place.

"My Special Place" by Mike, Grade 6

You could journey to Yosemite among the trees

Where sunlight filters through the pines

Chickorees twittering as they scurry up the rough banks

While they are dwarfed by the Ponderosa Pines

towering over the silent underbrush of logs and grass.

And you could be John Muir, exploring the land.

A grove of pines could be your special place.

"My Special Place" by Abby, Grade 6

You could go to the relaxing beach on the coast of Hawaii.

Where shells are like tiny pearls dotting the sand

and the water sparkles like diamonds.

And the wind whispers as the seashells wink at me

and the waves roar like a lion.

And you can be in the salty blue ocean,

watching as the seaweed dances at your feet.

A beach could be your special place.
