Writing Lesson of the Month Network
...sharing thoughtful, mentor text-inspired lessons your students will love!
WritingFix has a popular lesson called "Poems of Condition," which is inspired by poet Rudyard Kipling's If, which was made into a great picture book call If.
Click hereto access this popular lesson over at WritingFix.
This is a good lesson, but we suspect it would be even better if someone added a Writer's Notebook prompt as part of the lesson's pre-writing step. What might students be asked to record in their writers' notebooks to help them succeed with idea development and voice, the two focus traits of this lesson? How might students illustrate their own notebook pages to help them like enough the ideas they've written down so they go further with them during a future writer's workshop block? How might a page be set-up to give students multiple ideas to choose from when they are ready to move from pre-writing to composing?
We are looking for a teacher both willing and inspired to create a teacher model for this lesson! We need a digital photograph of a teacher's notebook page. If you send us one and we post it over at WritingFix, we'll send you a complimentary copy of any one of the NNWP's Print Publications.
To post a digital photo, you must be a member of this group at the ning. If you are a member, you will see a "reply to this" box below where you can attach a digital photo of your original notebook page that you designed to show your students. If you are not a member, you will not see a "reply box" until you click on the "+Join Using Writer's Notebooks" link in the upper right hand section of this page.
We hope this challenge inspires you!
