5th and 6th grade teacher, Rita Livingston, used WritingFix's "Building with the 6 Traits" Poster set (http://writingfix.com/traits.htm#inservice) to create the following class bulletin board.

Thanks, Barb. I got the headstone templates off the computer, then copied/pasted them into a word document. Then I added the words in a text box. I didn't weed out too many words. My kids got a list the day I put this up of "Dead Words." These were the words that are used most often in writing from that list.

In the next few days we are going to add flowers to the headstones with better words for these "Dead Words"...with the idea that the flowers are alive and therefore more vibrant interesting words than the boring, dead words on the headstones.

What a great idea. Did you premake the headstones or did the kids make them? Did you weed out the words that were at a lower level? Thanks for sharing Barb

Here's a shot of my Trait of the Month bulletin board for October...has definitions and student samples I posted from the Idea lessons at WritingFix. My kids love to read samples from other students.

For the bulletin board posted, how did you get the bat, gravestone, and tree shapes? Were they die cuts?
