"Hi Melissa, Just wondering how you have planned to fit writing, grammar, reading into your 55 minute class. I constantly struggle with this balance and I have about 45 minutes per day to accomplish everything. Any thoughts would be appreciated."

I am a former elementary teacher who has moved to a 6th grade middle school  LA class. It is difficult to balance the reading and the writing in the course of five 45 minute blocks. I believe that the kids are still learning to read so reading instruction has to be balanced with writing instruction. I would like to give both equal time but no matter what I come up with I feel as though lessons become disjointed. My seventh and eight grade teachers teach mostly writing.
