I am asking students to reserve the first five pages of their journals for a Table of Contents. I teach both Freshmen ELA and Senior ELA classes along with a Practical writing and Theater class. My objective is for students to create a resource book for analyzing literature, rhetorical applications for specific academic and creative writing and Word Stems and SAT prep. Many of my students draw and doodle on their papers. I am using notebooks as a creative writing opportunity to connect classroom literature with individual thinking and writing. I like the idea of illustrations on student writing samples but not interested in graffiti or child like drawings. School appropriate topics are covered in the student handbook. Any suggestions?
